WP4: Implementation of Competence Assessment Procedure
Aims
To develop a tool which can capture a learner's performance data and apply the CAP to provide a personalised assessment result. The algorithms defined in WP 3 will be incorporated in the tool.
Start/finish date (overall duration)
May 08 - January 09
Role and tasks of partners involved
IDC will develop the tools necessary (network-service, data-capture and interface) in close collaboration with UniGraz who will develop the algorithms to be implemented. Medic Vision will aid in the development process, as they have experience in developing curriculum-based interfaces (The Mediseus simulator, www.medicvision.com) and learning management systems.
Working methods and techniques
The tool will be developed in conjunction with WP 3 as the network-service has to be designed depending on the outcomes of the algorithms in that package. The development of the interface will be done in conjunction with WP 5 and 6 and with an Iterative Design Process, in which the end users (trainers, trainees) will be involved in every step of a repeating process of evaluation and redesigns.
Expected outcomes/results
1. A network based service to collect data from the trainees.
a) An interface connected to a network-service accessible from any computer within the network will be developed. The trainee will have a private login to this page (the tool). On this site, the trainee will attempt to solve defined problems (psychomotor, cognitive and others) using a case based learning format. The results from these tasks will be sent to a network server from which the data can be accessed for analysis and evaluation.
b) Algorithms outlined in WP 3 will also be incorporated in a previously developed simulator for spinal anaesthesia, which will run within the interface (a). The simulator can store information on how the procedure is performed (time, motion capture etc.). The results of the performance with the simulator will be sent to the same server as in (a) for analysis and evaluation.
2. A network based service to view data of the trainees.
The server will also be connected to another interface to which the trainers have a unique login and can access the trainee data from (1). Visualisations of the trainee data (tables, graphs etc.) will be displayed in some way at the interface. The nature of the display will depend on the outcomes of WP 3.
Quality management tools
To ensure the quality of the implementation the expert advisory group will be consulted in several steps of the implementation process. To ensure that the data is captured securely and that confidentiality of personal training files is maintained, sufficient network-security measurements will be incorporated in the service.
